Background
Online graduate programs at the University of Illinois rely heavily on Blackboard Collaborate, a learning management system that allows online students to attend class virtually and synchronously. Blackboard Collaborate provides a virtual classroom environment for online U of I students to experience lectures, chat with professors and classmates, ask questions, work in breakout rooms, and so on. Most online students are required to join Blackboard Collaborate sessions each week, yet many are still unsure how. Often, there is confusion about how to connect, how to check audio, how to move to breakout rooms, and more. Although some professors use other learning management systems for their classes, Blackboard Collaborate is the official system for the University of Illinois; therefore, it is essential that online students are able to efficiently operate the system.
